XpoTalk TV: Event and Virtual Event Defined by Sybase

During the Web 2.0 Conference in early April, I was able to meet up with Jonathan Baker, Director of Evangelism, Sybase, and Danalynne Wheeler, Director of Marketing – Events and Social Media, Sybase. They were both kind enough to sit down with me to discuss the Web 2.0 conference and provide their thoughts about what defines an event.

Web 2.0 Summary:

  • Event highlighted the pressure for ROI and measurement
  • No guidelines at thist time, only suggestions
  • Trying to figure out how to get metrics but still under development
  • A lot of excitement and innovation happening

Event and Virtual Event Defined:

  • Web has made an event fuzzier as it can be available longer amount of time whereas a physical event is over when it’s done
  • An event is bringing people together regardless of format
  • Key definition of virtual event is that’s it’s more than a webcast. It’s the ability to interact with participants, sponsors, and exhibitors in a bi-directional manner
  • Virtual events will allow us to expand our horizons – reach new audiences, be more involved, and get information
